Mission Malawi 07

MalawiBack in June I had the opportunity to visit Malawi on a mission with a group from Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn, AL. We were visiting the Brownfields, one of their missionary families that has been in Malawi for many years and has established an extensive network of new pastors and churches, some in bordering countries. Our visit came at a very busy time for the Brownfields as they were balancing a sizable multi-week levee construction project involving numerous young people from the states and our week-long pastor training conference.

The conference took place in the Zoa Baptist Church located on the Zoa Tea Plantation south of Blantyre. There were about 40 pastors, their wives and children, most of whom traveled many miles on foot to be there. The theme of our conference was servant leadership and we shared with them, through translators, a number Bible stories that demonstrated both good and bad servant leadership qualities. The focus was to help make them aware of their own cultural behaviors and how they may be pleasing or displeasing to God. The week went by very quickly and we were all befriended by these wonderfully kind and polite people.
